Office of Elder
ACCORDING TO THE BOOK OF ORDER
"Elders should be persons of faith, dedication, and sound judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within the church and in the world.
It is the duty of elders, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation...together with the pastor, they should encourage the people in the worship and service of God, equip and renew them for their tasks.
Elders...should cultivate their ability to teach the Bible...In special circumstances and with special instruction, specific elders may be authorized...to administer the Lord's Supper."

Office of Elder
ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE
"An elder must be blameless, faithful to [his wife] someone whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild or disobedient. Since an overseer manages God's household, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain..."
"An elder...must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined."
"An elder...must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it."
--Titus 1:6-9

Office of Elder
RESPONSIBILITIES
An Elder serves on Session with pastor as moderator. Stated meetings are held on the 4th Saturday of each month during season. June through August, meetings are held as called.
Each Elder serves on at least one Session Ministry Action Team which meets on the first Thursday of each month. Six members of Session serve as Trustees.
As an Elder you will be asked to serve the Lord's Supper (in worship) twice each year. Also, you will be asked to serve on an elder/deacon team to take Communion to Shut-ins, as well as attend an Annual Elder/Deacon meeting.
Being an Elder at Trinity Church means that we -- Pastor, Church Staff, and Session members -- serve together as a team in church operations and in moving our congregation into the future.
