Ministry
This Ministry of our Board of Deacons provides food and financial assistance to individuals in need in the Venice community. Each month we provide 1,000 to 1,200 people who are hungry with food - free of charge. Some of them are working, many are not. Some of them have homes, many do not. Most have to choose between food, utilities, housing, gasoline or medical care. Through food donations from the community, our church members and various "food partners" from whom we purchase food at a discount, we do what we can to make their choice a little easier.
Karin Barbito
Karin is always there to welcome you with a prayer and a hug. She believes that in this land of plenty no one should go hungry.
"For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome..." (Matthew 25:35-36)
Typically you can expect help such as:
- Food
- Clothing
- Bus passes
- Gas vouchers
- Pet food
- Utility bill disconnect notices
- Homeless supplies
- Bicycles
Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to input computer data, stock food shelves, pick up food donations from local grocery stores, unload food items, fill food orders, and assist clients. Volunteers are welcome from any church and the community. The face of hunger will surprise you.
