WHO ARE WE?

The mission of the Community Assistance Ministry (C.A.M.) is to meet the urgent needs of the residents of Venice and Nokomis, FL and the homeless, with dignity and respect. Many of those served find themselves in the situation of having to decide between paying rent or putting food on the table for their family.  Through food donations from the community, church members, and various "food partners" from whom we purchase food at a discount, we do what we can to make their choice a little easier.

WHAT DO WE DO?

C.A.M. provides lunch each day, as well as food to take home (enough to prepare 3 meals a day for 9 days). In 2014 this amounted to 1.4 million meals for 31,000 guests. C.A.M. also provides monthly Liberty SCAT bus passes ($8/each), assistance with photo Ids, baby gifts for expectant mothers, personal hygiene products, and miscellaneous financial assistance.

HOW IT'S DONE

C.A.M. believes it is not enough to just give things to people who are in need, but that the key to people overcoming poverty is a sense of personal responsibility, along with education and the tools to promote life-long change.  Therefore, C.A.M. partners with The Salvation Army, Legal Aid, the Veterans Administration, Jewish Family & Children Services, and Career Source Workforce. These agencies bring their
unique talents to C.A.M.s location at Trinity Presbyterian Church.  In order to bring needed health services to one location, C.A.M. partners with Walgreens, Good Samaritan Pharmacy, and the Venice Lions Club to host mini health clinics. All services are free and include flu shots, reading glasses, and vouchers for an eye exam and two pair of corrective lenses.

  • Computer input
  • Fill food orders
  • Hostess table
  • Bread, pastry, & coffee table
  • Pick up bread & pastry donations
  • Prepare & serve lunch

C.A.M. also believe that the spiritual and emotional needs of their guests must be met, as well as the physical. To help meet these needs they have Stephen Ministers on site to offer prayer, support, and counseling.
